As many of you know, the Live 8/ONE movement prompted 8 of the nations top leaders to give a total of 25 BILLION dollars towards the AIDS pandemic in Africa. As I kept up with this story over the last several months, I was humbled to see so many talented artist and musicians unite for a common cause so huge, so audacious that in order to achieve it would require them to do the unbelievable ... to put themselves aside and unite their efforts to see a whole continent revolutionized. Possible? These people believed so.
As heartbreaking as the AIDS pandemic is in Africa, and as noble the effort to eradicate it, we face a similar pandemic in North America and in Charlotte that I believe will take every last one of us to eradicate.
George Barna says that 8 million 20somethings will want nothing to do with the church by their 30th birthday. Friends, that's 8 with 6 zero's behind it. The heartbreaking thing is that this pandemic sweeping across North America and our city is not just physical in nature ... but spiritual ... not dealing with just a body ... but a soul ... not dealing with life vs. death ... but eternal live vs. eternal death.
As leaders who will one day give an account for that which has been entrusted to us, namely, the Good News of Jesus Christ, what is our response going to be to this spiritual pandemic that has slowly infected the hearts of so many young adults in Charlotte?
